Walk down any skincare aisle and you’ll see lotions and cremes sitting side by side, and most people just grab whichever bottle looks nice. But they’re not interchangeable, and knowing the difference means your skin actually gets what it needs.
Lotions are lighter. They’re mostly water with a smaller amount of oil, which is why they sink in fast and never feel greasy. That makes them perfect for everyday use, especially in warmer weather or if you’ve got normal to combination skin. Think of a lotion as your daily maintenance, quick, easy, no residue left behind.
Cremes are richer. They carry more oil than water, which means they sit on the skin a little longer and work harder to lock in moisture. That’s exactly what you want on dry patches, rough elbows, cracked heels, or during those months when your skin just feels tighter than usual. A creme is less “everyday quick fix” and more “targeted repair.”
Here’s the thing though, you don’t actually have to choose one over the other. A lot of our customers use a lotion daily, right after a shower, and keep a creme on hand for the areas that need extra attention or for colder months when skin needs more.
If you’re not sure where to start, feel your skin after a normal day. If it still feels tight or flaky by evening, lean creme. If it feels fine most of the time and you just want light daily hydration, lotion’s your go-to.
Either way, plant-based ingredients matter more than the lotion-versus-creme debate. That’s the part we never compromise on.
